In Seattle & Bellevue, WA

One thing I love about living in the Seattle area is the abundance of quality sushi & Japanese restaurants! Japanese food (especially sushi) is my favorite so I have been to a lot of places but there are still so many on my list to check out! I will say that I purposely did not include Shiro’s or Sushi Kashiba here which are at the top of most Seattle sushi recommendations (rightly so!). I wanted to share a few of my personal favorites that you might not have visited yet!

1. Japonessa

Bellevue: 500 Bellevue Way NE Suite 130, Bellevue, WA 98004

Seattle: 1400 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98101

Japonessa is open for takeout, delivery, and indoor dining 7 days a week! They are currently offering happy hour all day every day for takeout orders too. Japonessa is not only a top contender for my favorite sushi but also one of my favorite restaurants in general! They have convenient locations in downtown Seattle and downtown Bellevue. I appreciate Japonessa’s menu because they have traditional Japanese dishes, rolls, and nigiri/sashimi as well as creative Latin inspired rolls and dishes. Their sushi rolls are big! Some of my favorites are: Super Bad Boy, Seattle Crunch Roll, Skin on Skin, and Sweet Seduction. It’s a classy atmosphere, great to meet friends or have a date night! They have amazing cocktails too!

2. Umi Sake House

2230 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98121

Umi Sake House is currently open for takeout, delivery, and indoor dining 4-10 pm daily! They are located in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle. This restaurant offers an extensive menu of nigiri, sashimi, and rolls! They also have lots of hot dishes, noodles, and other non-fish options if sushi isn’t your thing (or whoever you are with!) It may not look like much from the street view outside, but it has a nice classy interior!

3. I Love Sushi

Bellevue: 23 Lake Bellevue Dr, Bellevue, WA 98005

Seattle: 1001 Fairview Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109

I Love Sushi opened in Bellevue in 1981! I feel like this restaurant can be easily passed over because it’s outside the main hub of restaurants and shops in downtown Bellevue. It is definitely worth checking out! Delicious fresh sushi as well as a kind and welcoming staff! Great date night spot. Good parking, indoor and outdoor heated seating options available at both locations. I have not been to I Love Sushi on Lake Union but as the name suggests it’s right on the water which looks really nice! The South Lake Union location opened in 1992.

4. FLO

1150 106th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004

FLO Japanese Restaurant and Sake Bar is a spot in downtown Bellevue that I’ve been back to several times and always thoroughly enjoy! Not only is the food & drink superb, but the service is also excellent. I also like that it’s on the smaller side so it never seems too loud or busy. Currently, they are only doing takeout but have plans to open for indoor dining again soon. I don’t think they are offering it right now, but my husband and I did an Omakase (Chef’s selection) that was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!

5. Gokan Sushi & Katsu

954 E Union St, Seattle, WA 98122

Definitely check out this delicious sushi restaurant if you’re ever in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood! They offer a great happy hour menu. Order some hot miso soup, chicken katsu, and a couple of rolls to share! Perfect spot to grab takeout as well. Whether you dine in or get takeout you will finish your meal feeling full and satisfied!

Honorable Mentions

Here are a couple spots my husband and I have been getting takeout from recently:

  1. Aa sushi in Kirkland
  2. Kobe in Bellevue
  3. Momoya (building closed, I believe they are looking for a new location. DM them on Instagram @momoyakirkland for takeout).
